Design Support Specialist | Mechanical Design & VDC Coordination

Greater St. Louis Area

A growing engineering and construction support group is seeking a Design Support Specialist to help drive coordination between design, VDC, and field teams on active projects.

This is a hybrid coordination role sitting between engineering and operations—ideal for someone with a background in mechanical design, VDC, or project coordination who wants to stay involved in technical work while helping keep projects aligned, organized, and moving forward.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support project setup, scheduling, and documentation across mechanical design projects
  • Develop and maintain project work plans, including task tracking and internal deadlines
  • Coordinate across engineering, VDC, and commissioning teams to align scope, resources, and timelines
  • Facilitate project meetings, design reviews, and coordination discussions with internal teams and external partners
  • Assist in planning fabrication workflows, including pre-spooling and detailing coordination
  • Manage project documentation, design logs, and deliverables
  • Identify risks early and help drive solutions to keep projects on track
  • Coordinate third-party resources and ensure alignment with project goals

What You Bring:

  • 3 years of experience in project coordination, VDC, or engineering within the mechanical construction industry
  • Understanding of mechanical systems and MEP design workflows
  • Experience working with BIM/VDC environments or construction project management tools
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify issues and take initiative
  • Willingness to travel occasionally as needed
