Accounting Lead – CarePathRx (Health Systems Services)
Band 4 – Senior Manager
Role Summary
The Accounting Lead – CarePathRx is responsible for leading the day-to-day accounting operations for CarePathRx, a newly acquired business within Cigna’s Health Systems Services organization. This role serves as the primary accounting owner for CarePathRx and is accountable for timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting while driving consistency with Health Systems Services and enterprise accounting standards.
The role provides direct people leadership for certain CarePathRx accountants and oversees others through a matrixed reporting relationship. The Accounting Lead – CarePath will report to the Head of Accounting of Health Systems Services and have responsibilities supporting business leadership, and cross-functional teams to support integration, close execution, control environment maturity, and ongoing operational scale.
This role is a key bridge between CarePathRx’s legacy accounting processes and Cigna’s enterprise accounting framework.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Leadership & Ownership
- Serve as the primary accounting lead for CarePathRx, with end-to-end accountability for general ledger accuracy, close execution, and financial reporting deliverables.
- Lead and coordinate all monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities for CarePathRx in alignment with Health Systems Services timelines and standards.
- Own key accounting judgments and estimates, escalating complex or sensitive matters to Health Systems Services accounting leadership as appropriate.
People Leadership & Matrix Management
- Directly manage a subset of CarePathRx accountants, providing coaching, performance management, and development.
- Provide oversight and functional guidance to additional CarePathRx accountants in a matrixed reporting relationship.
- Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and collaboration norms across direct and matrixed resources.
Integration & Process Maturity
- Support the ongoing integration of CarePathRx accounting processes into the Health Systems Services and enterprise accounting model.
- Drive process standardization, documentation, and optimization across close, reconciliations, and reporting activities.
- Partner with Health Systems Services accounting leaders to implement changes related to systems, controls, or enterprise initiatives.
Controls, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure a strong internal control environment, including execution of key controls and support for SOX and SOC 1 requirements.
- Partner with Internal Audit and enterprise controllership on walkthroughs, testing, and remediation activities.
- Identify control gaps or operational risks and proactively implement corrective actions.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Act as the primary accounting liaison for CarePathRx business leaders, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, and other finance partners.
- Support business initiatives by assessing accounting implications and ensuring alignment with GAAP and enterprise policy.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with both technical accounting partners and non-finance stakeholders.
Reporting Relationship
- Reports directly to the Head of Accounting – Health Systems Services.
- Manages a combination of direct-report accountants and matrixed accounting resources supporting CarePathRx.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- CPA or equivalent professional certification strongly preferred.
- 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including people leadership.
- Experience supporting healthcare, pharmacy services, or health systems businesses preferred.
- Demonstrated experience operating within a complex, matrixed organization.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control frameworks (SOX / SOC).
